Hello there, blogosphere!
So, who are we? Why are we here? We are Team Tarahumara – in our spare time ChloĆ« Tyler, Daniel Shirley, Richard and Haley Bowcock – and we are taking part in Trailwalker 2012, to raise money for Oxfam and the Gurkhas Welfare Trust. (You can learn more about the a little more about the individual parts that make up the whole that is Team Tarahumara here.)
We’ll be using this blog (plus the usual social media outlets) to keep you – friends, interested public, and of course generous potential donors – updated on our progress and provide you with ways to engage with our ‘trail’ to the big day in July, when we will walk 100 km through the South Downs to the finish line, with any luck (and a shedload of training) in under 24 hours.
The name ‘Tarahumara’ seemed apt for the challenge; the Tarahumara being a people from northern Mexico that are renowned for their long-distance running prowess. Not that we expect to actually emulate this exactly and run the Trailwalker (that would make it Trailrunner, wouldn’t it?); think of it more as an aspirational nom de guerre, if you will.
Wish us luck and watch this space!
